William L. “Bill” Pitz was a man who found joy in the simple but lasting things—family gathered together, time on the farm, cheering from the sidelines and making people laugh. His generosity, humor and devotion to those he loved left an impression that will endure far beyond his 64 years.
Bill Pitz of Farley, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Jones County Regional Health in Anamosa from injuries sustained in a farm accident.
Born in Epworth, Iowa, to Bob and Dorothy Pitz, Bill grew up on the family farm and developed a lifelong passion for agriculture. He graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 1980, where he played sports and participated in 4-H. He later built a career in farming and became known for his cattle and relationships throughout the agricultural community.
Bill married his high school sweetheart, Lynn Steffen, on September 4, 1982. Together they raised five children: Kristen, Brittany, Amber, Logan and Morgan. His grandchildren became another source of immense pride, with 10 grandchildren and another on the way.
He coached his children’s sports teams, supported them from the sidelines and treasured every opportunity to be together. Beyond farming, Bill enjoyed sports, friendships and bringing people together.
His legacy is found in the family he cherished, the friendships he formed and the agricultural community he helped strengthen.
Bill is survived by Lynn, his children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, extended family and many friends. His family will remember a husband, father, grandfather, farmer and friend whose laughter and presence made ordinary moments special.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable absence, the love Bill gave and the memories he created will remain with those fortunate enough to know him.
