Grassel, a celebrated Midwest musician, died after experiencing a medical episode while driving that day, according to reporting by FOX6 News. His wife, singer and actress Jill Jensen, was able to say goodbye to him at the hospital before his death later that night.
Music was at the center of Grassel’s life. He created the Music Occupations Department at Milwaukee Area Technical College in 1983 and spent 20 years teaching there. His published obituary credits him with 21 CDs, 70 compositions, 12 industry awards and 23 instructional books.
Grassel and Jensen began performing together in 1998 after meeting at one of his shows. They married on December 29, 1999, and spent decades performing as a duo, building a musical partnership that became an important part of both their lives.
His career also included collaborations with prominent musicians, while his teaching left an enduring influence on students who went on to successful musical careers. His family remembers him not only for his extraordinary musical talent, but also for the passion, humor and love he brought to those around him.
